Helpful Hours

Helpful Hours is a free service available for anyone with hearing loss, their families and friends to join.

It has been created and designed using our volunteers’ life experience of living hearing loss and deafness.

What is a Helpful Hour?

As the name suggests, a Helpful Hour is a 60-minute webinar offering information and guidance on important hearing loss topics.

Each session is split into segments to allow for several aspects of a specific topic to be covered. There is also time at the end of the session to ask questions to our knowledgeable peer support volunteers.

Following the webinar, participants receive a series of information sheets via email which cover the main topics covered. They include additional information and links to useful resources that can help. This means you won’t have to concentrate on taking notes during the session – we’ve done it all for you!

How is the Helpful Hour delivered?

Our Helpful Hour service is primarily delivered as an online webinar. We use Microsoft Teams Webinar to present each session.

Participants receive a link via email to the webinar once registered for a FREE place. At times, we also hold Helpful Hour in-person at events such as our Hearing Information Days.

Are Helpful Hours accessible for people with hearing loss?

Yes. We encourage participants to access our webinars using a desktop computer or a laptop to ensure full access to all the application’s functions.

We provide real-time captions for participants to follow throughout the presentation. Our host will explain how to access these. If participants require an alternative form of communication support (e.g. British Sign Language) please contact us before completing the registration process.

What are the current Helpful Hour topics offered?
