Alison’s update

We’re swinging into summer with the second May bank holiday just behind us.

It’s good news for our community work with yet another Hearing Support Session venue and the re-commencement of Community Days around the country.

And, specially for Volunteers’ week (3 – 9 June), we will be having a get-together down the Ear ‘n’ Dog.  See below for more information and hope to see you there soon.

Community Outreach – Hearing Support Sessions

Last month, we did a round-up of all the venues across the country where we are delivering Hearing Support Sessions regularly.

We are delighted to tell you that we have another one to add.  It’s in the Bicester Health Centre, Oxfordshire and of course we will be looking for volunteers to support this.

If you are interested, please let me know.  If you have already expressed an interest, thank you and I will be in touch with you next week.

This is a great opportunity for regular volunteering and I would like to tell you a bit more about how one of our “regulars” got involved.

Mary joins Mycenae House

Mary was a speaker for Hearing Dogs and Nicholas first met her in 2012 and she was an applicant for her first hearing dog Baxter back in 2012.  Fast forward to 2022 and Mary now has her second hearing dog, Coco, and is living in Greenwich, London.

She was one of the first Hearing Dogs volunteers to embrace Hearing Link Services, having had to overcome some hurdles in managing her own hearing loss.  Through perfect serendipity we were looking for a volunteer to join volunteer Alison at our Mycenae House Hearing Support drop in sessions in the area.

It was as easy as that for Mary – she had let Nicholas know of her interest and she has been going along regularly each month for the last two years.  Alison told me how much she appreciates having Mary and Coco with her.

“Mary and Coco (her dog) are especially welcomed by some of the people who come with the learning disabled group and Mary has been great at explaining what Coco does for her in terms of keeping her safe and helping her at home. She has set up the table and put it all away when I had to leave early so that’s also been brilliant.”

If you are interested in supporting any of our current Hearing Support Sessions or would be interested if one were to be started in your area, please let me know and we can have a chat.
