New Helpful Hours topic

Managing medical appointments with hearing loss

Many thanks to all of you who completed the survey in support of our next planned Helpful Hour topic – ‘Managing medical appointments with hearing loss’.

We’re heading towards the trial/rehearsal stage of this project, ahead of the in-person launch next month at our Hearing Information Day at The Grange.

Join our public rehearsals

If you can help with the final part of this topic’s development, we would love for you to attend either of our ‘public rehearsals’ via Teams.

These will take place on the following dates:

The sessions are designed to give staff and volunteers insight into what this new session contains, so you can be confident in talking about its content.

Equally, they are a chance for the volunteers involved to present the topic for the first time. As such, there are some differences to the webinars.

  • Support is via captions and not STTR.
  • Volunteers will share the body of the presentation
  • Technical breaks may interrupt the flow of the session
  • The Q+A function won’t be activated.

The sessions are also being held as a Teams meeting, rather than the Teams webinar which is normally used for our public sessions. So, to emulate presentation conditions you will be held in a ’lobby’ when you join, and cameras and mics will be off.

You will be able to use the react function, thumbs up, applause, etc, during the course of the presentation.

What happens after?

At the end of the session you attend, you’ll receive draft copies of the information sheets as participants will do. Please note, these will be in draft form as we are trying to find the balance between what is shown, said, and written.

There will be a survey to complete also which will inform our content and its balance. It will be really appreciated if you take the time to complete that.

Join the team!

Developing a Helpful Hour is a labour of love. The volunteers involved are invested on a personal level and feel deeply passionate about the topic.

The end result however, is a presentation and information sheets that anyone can bring to life with their own anecdotes and focus.

Presentations are live and unique and if you would like to become a presenter for either topic, please drop Nicholas an email.
